CAPT Annual Meeting

You are invited to the November Meeting.

The meeting will be held from 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm, preceded by lunch beginning at 11:00 am at Big Ben Pub. The meeting location is 1535 Elizabeth Avenue, Charlotte, N.C. 28204. Restaurant phone number is 704 817-9697.

A tour of the new passenger platform and station site for the Gateway Multimodal Transportation Center is planned prior to lunch at 10:15 am at the project site on West Trade Street. This will be conducted by the Charlotte Area Transit System. Gateway Project Director Brian Nadnoly who will also be at the meeting at 2:30 for a short presentation, and brief question and answer period.

Those arriving by train may take the #11 CATS transit bus which stops at the Amtrak station to the city transportation center on East Trade Street. There one can take the Gold Line City Lynx Streetcar to the Gateway station site. Local CAPT members will also help in transporting some from the Amtrak station to the site. Those coming to the site by auto may park In the gravel lot on 4th Street between the Greyhound Bus Terminal and the elevated Norfolk Southern mainline.

After the tour is completed one can walk to the Gold Line City Lynx Gateway station and take the streetcar to the meeting location at Big Ben's Pub. One can also drive to the location since there is plenty of parking across Elizabeth Avenue from the Elizabeth/Hawthorne streetcar station. Note no fare is required to ride the City Lynx Gold Line. Fare is required for the #11 bus. The streetcar now runs about every 20 minutes in each direction. Information is available at ridetransit.org.

*Note: The agenda will be suspended at 2:30 pm for a presentation by Brian Nadnoly, CATS Project Manager for the Charlotte Gateway Station and Red Line Commuter Rail who will update us on the latest news and briefly touch on the Red Line commuter possibilities, in addition to Amtrak, for the transportation center. After the presentation and short question and answer period consideration of the regular agenda will resume.


CAPT Official Notice of Election of Officers and Directors

Directors and Officers for the Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains will be elected at the November 21, 2024 Annual General Membership meeting. Directors serve terms of two years, and officers are elected yearly. The Board of Directors consists of 12 to 18 members based on the percentage of CAPT members in North Carolina and South Carolina. This serves as official notice of the annual meeting and elections. Any member interested in running for the board should contact any member of the present board and provide biographical information for consideration, or be prepared to provide this information in person at the meeting. Current directors who are ending a term of two years should notify President Martin Wheeler if the intention is to run again! . Those who do not notify the President, or appear at the meeting will not be considered. The current CAPT Board serves as the official Nominating Committee.
