The August meeting for CAPT will be held at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center in Cary, North Carolina. It is located one block east of the Cary Amtrak Station along the NS tracks. (The Cary Amtrak station is located at 211 North Academy Street in Cary.) We will meet in the meeting room on the second floor. The meeting is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. For those of you arriving by train, we will meet the northbound Carolinian, scheduled to arrive at 10:43 a.m., and then go two blocks to the Food Factory for lunch. For those of you that would arrive on the Silver Star (train 92) please let Gene Kirkland {(919) 832-2113 or rkirkland1@nc.rr.com} know and we will meet you at the Cary station. The Star is due into Cary at 8:15 a.m.

After lunch we will move to Page-Walker. Mr. Pat Simmons, Director, Rail Division, NCDOT, will address us on the status of the Rail Division activites, especially relating to the stimulus funding from the federal government.

  • Update on resolution drive in South Carolina in support of expanded rail passenger service
  • Status of efforts to produce new CAPT brochure featuring maps of present and possible future rail passenger service

  • Update on CAPT newsletter and website issues
  • Update on rail developments across the Carolinas including start of 3rd Charlotte-Raleigh frequency and opening of new Durham Amtrak station.
