The February meeting of the Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains will be on Saturday, February 9th at UNC Charlotte - Center City from noon to 3:00 p.m. in room 806. The address is 320 E. 9th Street located just east of the old Charlotte Trolley station, and close to the planned location of the 10th Street light rail station on CATS Blue Line extension. Parking for the meeting is available on site at a cost of $4 exact cash placed in the parking space slot.

Amtrak's southbound Piedmont arrives at 9:55 a.m. at the train station on North Tryon Street. If you plan to come by train, notify CAPT Secretary Phil Astwood at astwoodp@bellsouth.net . Some local CAPT members may be able to provide transportation depending on the number of persons arriving by train. Charlotte Area Transit System's Route #11 bus also serves the Amtrak station and connects to the center city

Those wishing to eat before the meeting should arrive at 10:15 a.m. at Mert's Heart and Soul Restaurant at 214 North College Street (between 5th and 6th Streets). The brunch menu can be viewed at www.mertscharlotte.com. Lunch will have to be completed by 11:45 a.m. to allow time to get to the meeting location. Parking for lunch can be found at some curbside locations nearby, or at the 7th Street station parking deck next the the Public Market and CATS 7th Street light rail station.

The meeting will conclude around 3:00 p.m. allowing time for an auto tour of the Blue Line extension light rail alignment to University City and UNCC, Center City Streetcar alignment along Trade Street and Elizabeth Avenue, Multi-Modal Transportation Center site on West Trade Street, and the planned location of the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Rail Maintenance facility near Summit Avenue and South Graham Street. Those taking the tour who came to the meeting via Amtrak will be transported back to the train station by 5:00 p.m. for the evening departure of the Piedmont for Raleigh.
