Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains

CAPT Board Meeting
May 19, 2018
North Charleston, SC

The Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains will meet at the Otranto Road Regional Library at 2261 Otranto Road in North Charleston, SC at 1:00 PM. The telephone number is (843) 572-4094. To reach this library, proceed on I-26 East toward Charleston and take Exit 205B which is University Boulevard and goes toward Goose Creek, SC. This will take you past Charleston Southern University which will be on your left. Proceed down University Boulevard for about five miles and bear right onto US Highway 78 (also known as Rivers Avenue). After turning onto Rivers Avenue, Otranto Road will be a right turn at the first traffic light that you will come to. On the right there will be a Murphy Express gas/convenience store at the corner of Rivers Avenue and Otranto Road. Go about two blocks on Otranto Road and the library will be on the left.

Our guest speaker for this meeting will be Sharon Hollis who is a transportation planner at the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG). She is very much involved in monitoring the progress of the North Charleston Intermodal Passenger Station. Sharon has been the project manager for the center since the beginning and will bring us the latest updates along with some (hopefully) pictures/photos of the construction work to date.

At the conclusion of the meeting, we will visit the site of the new Intermodal Passenger Station. To reach this site, go back out to Rivers Avenue and proceed toward downtown North Charleston for about six or seven miles and watch for the green sign for the Amtrak Station which will be a right turn off Rivers Avenue. There has been quite a lot of progress on the new intermodal center and reportedly work is now proceeding on the new platforms for Amtrak passengers. CARTA (bus system) and Southeastern Stages (intercity bus carrier) will also be sharing the facility along with taxis, shuttle services and Uber.
