Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains

CAPT Board Meeting
July 21, 2018
Charlotte, NC

The Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains will meet at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library at 310 North Tryon Street in Charlotte at 1:00 PM. The meeting will be in the Francis Auditorium, and should end by 4 pm.

CAPT members will meet those arriving on the morning Piedmont train from Raleigh at the Amtrak station. Arrival is scheduled at 9:40 am. The group will then go to 7th Street Station to park autos. Charlotte Area Transit ( CATS ) Bus route #11 also provides travel between the Amtrak station and the meeting location. Get on the bus at the Amtrak station, ride into Center City and get off at 7th Street in front of the library, and walk to 7th Street Station to join our group.

At 7th Street Station our group will ride CATS Blue line light rail service to University City and University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The line has been extended, and has been operating now since mid-March. It covers 20 miles between the Pineville area and University area. The northbound train will depart 7th Street at 10:27 am. (There is frequent service so we could take the next northbound train if most can not make it to the site by 10:27 am.) The train is to return to 7th Street southbound at 11:36 am.

After return of the train there will be an opportunity for lunch at Queen City Q barbecue restaurant, or other nearby restaurants if you choose. There should be sufficient time to eat, and then make your way to the library on North Tryon Street for the meeting.

At the conclusion of the meeting between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm, there will be an opportunity to take an auto ride along the route of the Gold Line Streetcar service which is being extended. Construction on utilities and other street improvements has been going on for some time, and rail and overhead power construction is coming up next. The route will follow Beatties Ford Road, Trade Street and Elizabeth Avenue.

After the tour those departing by Amtrak's Piedmont will be transported back to the train station in time for the Piedmont's 7:00 pm departure for Raleigh.
