Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains

CAPT Board Meeting
September 29, 2018
Raleigh, NC

Due to Hurricane Florence, the Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains meeting has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 29, 2018. We will meet at the Raleigh Union Station, 510 West Martin Street in Raleigh, North Carolina. We will begin by meeting the Carolinian as it arrives at 10:05 a.m. Should you drive instead, please take the Wade exit from I-40 as you come into town on I-40. Follow Wade Avenue into central Raleigh where it will merge with Capital Boulevard. Follow Capital Boulevard into downtown Raleigh. Capital Boulevard will split just past the CSX underpass and you will bear right onto Dawson Street. Turn right onto Martin Street. Just before you arrive at the station you will need to turn right onto South West Street. The parking deck is on the right at 223 South West Street. Parking at the Dillon parking deck is $2.00 per hour and can only be paid for with a credit or debit card. There is not an attendant and you cannot pay with anything other than a credit card or debit card.

I would suggest that you drive to either Cary or Durham and catch the Carolinian into Raleigh. Parking at the Raleigh station is very expensive and is located in what has become a very congested area. The Raleigh Union Station is in the Warehouse district and it is very busy on the weekends. Also, the Blue Grass festival will be ongoing in Raleigh and this area is very close to the show. The area is expected to be very congested as people will be attending the festival.

There are two excellent choices for lunch. The Morgan Street Food Mall has just opened at 411 West Morgan Street and offers 18 vendors in an excellent setting three blocks north of the station. Seating is a little tight but the food is excellent. Another choice is the Pit Authentic Barbecue at 328 West Davie Street about three blocks east of the new Raleigh Union Station. Lunch may be a very busy time for the restaurants as they are very close to the festival as well.

The meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m. and should end at 3:00 p.m. We will meet in the room on the third floor of the new Raleigh Union Station.

At the conclusion of the meeting, we will tour the new Raleigh Union Station. The meeting will end with the departure of the Carolinian 5:16 p.m.
